One Week Dartmoor Artists Retreat

Monday 30th July to Monday 6th August 2018

---

 Artists Retreat

The week caters for artists of all levels.

Beginners attend for the high quality teaching and practicalities of working as an artist in the landscape. Experienced artists come for the landscape, the situation, to meet other practitioners as well as to reflect on their own work.

DATES

Monday 30th July to Monday 6th August 2018

LOCATION

Gidleigh is a beautiful rural village on the edge of the Moor approximately three miles from Chagford, a Moor town with shops, banks etc.
The village hall has fantastic views, facilities and grounds with a camp-fire area and plenty of parking.

 FACILITIES

Gidleigh village hall has a large communal area, a professional catering kitchen, a shower, many toilets, a badminton court and a grand piano.

 SLEEPING

Most people camp in the grounds but some prefer to use a local B&B (with no reduction to the course cost).
You will need to bring all the camping equipment and bedding you require.

ART & PAINTING

Gidleigh is perfect for landscape painting or other creative activities and within walking distance from the hall are two fantastic areas:

Gidleigh woods with the wild river Teign running through the bottom of it and
the Moor, a huge open expanse with many ancient landmarks, including a stone circle.

The village hall is set in stunning farmland, and has a long veranda perfect for both painting and breakfast.

TEACHING

All the teaching is done by a professional artist.
The teacher will visit you in the landscape at your chosen painting locations on set days.

Much of the teaching also goes on informally as we learn from each other and during the critiques.

EVENING ACTIVITIES

After dinner the evening activities will include either of the following and will be slotted into the timetable as appropriate:
Pub outings, games, discussions, campfires, BBQ etc.

FOOD

Evening meals are shared and done on a rota system in teams so you only cook and wash up once or twice (depending on the group size).
The cost of these meals is split between the team cooking that evening.
We usually have one or two meals in a local pub.
You are responsible for your own breakfast and lunch daily.

TRANSPORT

It is advisable to bring your own transport, as it is a remote area.

If you are traveling by train, head for Exeter St. David’s where you can take a taxi to Gidleigh or a bus to Whiddon Down.
